Did you know that the library publishes a newsletter each term? It is always full of helpful information and reminders about your library.

This term’s issue includes information about our new art exhibits, new equipment available for checkout, library services at the new WOU Salem campus, WOU’s textbook affordability initiative, and more. You’ll also find an interesting history of the library at WOU, a list of new books that have been added to the library’s collections, and even a review of one of the new books in our Recreational Collection. EasyBib access gone as of August 31st

EasyBib phased out its institutional accounts as of Aug. 31st, which means that you are no longer able to access any citations, bibliographies, or other data in your EasyBib account.

The library now subscribes to Noodle Tools for citation management.

Pulling back the curtain on ILL

You may know about Summit, the “lending club” of academic libraries in our region, but in this term’s library newsletter we pull back the curtain a bit to talk about the bigger picture of resource sharing among libraries. The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) cooperative involves over 10,000 academic, public, and special libraries across the United States and the world!

Results of last year’s library survey

survey word cloud Last spring, almost 1,000 of you responded to the library’s survey evaluating the use and quality of the our collections, services, and facilities. That’s 584 WOU students, 143 faculty, 128 members of staff, and 100 graduate students. Thank you so much for your participation!

We’ve crunched the numbers and created an executive summary with the results and some info about what we’re going to do with your feedback. It’s available in WOU’s digital repository, Digital Commons@WOU.

Pages 1-3 summarize the survey itself, basic demographics, overall results, improvements made since the survey, and what’s next. Pages 4-7 are single-page reports of results from specific groups: undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff.

The worldwide reach of WOU’s scholarship and research

Digital Commons@WOU (online at digitalcommons.wou.edu), home to WOU’s scholarship and research, is getting noticed by a worldwide audience. The numbers on the readership map (below) illustrate the popularity of student and faculty work, but it’s the stories behind the numbers that make compelling reading. Cameras, computers, camcorders, and more for checkout

Did you know you can check out a digital camera from Hamersly Library? A laptop for in-library use? A USB microphone? In fact, the library manages over 500 items in its Equipment Lending program.

Most equipment has an initial loan of 4 days, with a 3-day renewal possible. A few items have a 4-hour loan. Library patrons can make reservations for equipment though Primo. You can can get these items from the Checkout Desk all hours the library is open. Learn more about the Equipment Lending program from our fall term library newsletter.

Memorial Day weekend hours

Heads up – the library’s hours will be modified for Memorial Day weekend:

–>Sat, 5/27: noon-5pm
–>Sun, 5/28: noon-5pm
–>Mon, 5/29: noon-midnight

The Press is open!

The Press hours The Press, Hamersly’s new cafe, is officially open for business. Its hours will be Mon-Thurs 8am-8pm, and Sun 3pm-8pm, closed Fri and Sat.

Thanks for all your patience as this project was completed. We hope you like having this new spot to study, catch up with friends, and get some much-needed caffeine while you’re hard at work in the library.

Which should I use? VDI or the Terminal Server?

Need to access your H drive from off campus? Need to use specialized programs such as SAS, SPSS, or Photoshop for a class assignment? You can access all these from almost any computer by using a virtual connection. There are two computing environments to connect to: VDI and the Terminal Server.

VDI has newer versions of the Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Some specialized software lives on VDI, while other software is only on the Terminal Server. Decide which option is best suited to your needs with this chart:
